Capstone Performance Blog
When I went up to present my assignment, I felt completely ready. I redid my Powerpoint and actually practiced what I would say in my head. Everything went very smooth, The person reviewing my assignment was very tuned in and was asking questions that I could answer right on the spot. The others in the room were also very interested and had similar topics, so listening for them was very easy and informative. I was nervous at first but after sitting down and introducing myself and my topic I cooled down and went through my presentation smoothly. I did good on my presentation and was very happy with the scores on the rubric because that showed that he enjoyed it himself. I personally enjoyed the class, I like how we were aloud to work on the overall assignment in class and all the time we had. The paper was probably the worst part of the class, it is basically what judges your 4th quarter grade and it's the only thing that I'm personally worried about. The teacher is also what makes the class, and Mr. Gaffigan was a great teacher with a good sense of humor. (Not sucking up)

State of Research

Section 4 Thoughts
On section 4, I have a few good sources and actual experience with my topic now. Over break, I was suppose to accomplish finishing my 8 paragraphs and have reliable sources with some interviews. I talked to my sisters about their careers so far and how it's going. I know a lot of their backgrounds because i was with them during these transformations. I found a good book source that talks about the transformation from a "civilian" to a "Marine." I do enjoy the research because I have found a lot about what all I will face in a few months from now. I love the process and this assignment is helping mentally prepare me for it all a bit more.
Egan's Thougts

Egan's thoughts
Yes, I do agree with Egan because I've actually used a few of his ideas during my high school career and I am in the process of trying to become a young adult, finding new ways to show your maturity is a somewhat hard thing to do. I look at some of my peers who in my eyes look and act very mature. It looks "cool" and something that sticks with you, so through the past few years of growing into a young adult, I have tried to become mature in my own way while still trying to remain a "jokster." Sycamore does offer us the opportunity to grow in the way Egan describes. They let us socialize in the hallways and let us have a few minutes of freedom but enough to where it's like an adult's job. For example they give us each a 30-minute lunch period just like an adult has for their job, they have 30 minutes to eat and get back to class. That is a prime example of comparing us to what adult's get for their jobs. Sycamore also lets us control our own destinies, they let us go down the path of pass or fail. If you chose to take time and do your work then you shall pass, but if you chose to fail then you need to fix that or let yourself go down. They will sometimes call you to the office to discuss your grades and even put you in a guided study hall, but they're only trying to help with your success.

Topic Matter Job #1
My experience so far with researching up on the Marine corps is that i've learned a lot about the procedures of boot camp and what I need to expect in my (very hopeful) future. My topic is locked in solid, my Topic is The United States Marine Corps. My main subject question is What to Expect from the Marines, Past, Present, and Future? The effort I have put forth so far is watching many youtube videos of the Marines Boot camp and reading up on their website about their past and Present. I also learned quite a lot of how african Americans played a large role in the Marines. My biggest challenge is getting acurate opinion based answers. The Marines have their pros and cons when it comes to almost any question except "Do you regret being a Marine?;" because almost all of them say "Not At ALL!" My effort so far on the assignment isn't at its max but soon will be once i get more involved with my topic myself.

Marine Corp
The
United States Marine Corps was established November 10th 1775. The
Marines were formed by Samuel Nicholas by the resolution of the Second
continental Congress. They are an
off-branch of the Navy but form their
own branch of the Armed Forces. They have been a part of every battle/war
America has been in since they are the most dominant of amphibious warfare.
They have 2 separate bands for the Marine Corps. On is the President’s Own,
which plays for the President at any big event he may be attending. The other
band is a marching band called the Commandant’s Own, They play for the
Commandant of the Marine corps since he is the highest rank of the Marines.
They also play for Marines at whatever base they may be located at. Each Marine
must go through basic training for 3 months. It consist of both Physical and
Mental aspects that can change an entire person to become a better one as a Marine.
Every Marine is trained to be a “rifleman,” so that no matter what their job is
in the Marines they can pick up a rifle and help defend/attack. Marines are
known to be the first of our major forces to be in combat. They training they
undergo is all aspects of warfare and situations that they may encounter during
battle. After Basic training they are the Rank Private First Class and have to
earn their way up to the next rank of Lance corporal.
